Longevity research peptides: Epithalon, NAD+ and SS-31

"Longevity" is one of the fastest-growing themes in compound research, spanning everything from telomeres to mitochondria. This guide introduces three of the most-studied reference compounds in that space. It is informational only: these compounds are supplied exclusively for in-vitro laboratory research and are not intended for human or veterinary use.

Epithalon

Epithalon (also written Epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) modelled on a pineal peptide. The literature studies it in relation to telomerase activity, circadian regulation and cellular-ageing models — questions at the core of longevity research.

NAD+

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is not a peptide but a coenzyme central to the cell's energy metabolism. It is included here because it is one of the most-cited molecules in longevity and mitochondrial research, studied in relation to sirtuin activity and cellular-ageing models.

SS-31

SS-31 (elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide studied in research on cardiolipin binding, mitochondrial bioenergetics and oxidative-stress models. Mitochondrial function is a recurring pillar of the ageing literature, which places SS-31 squarely in the longevity conversation.

A common thread: cellular energy and maintenance

What links these otherwise different compounds is that each is studied in relation to how cells maintain themselves over time: telomeres, energy coenzymes and mitochondria. As with all preclinical work, the literature describes what is being investigated, not settled results.

Handling and storage

These compounds ship lyophilised, are stored at −20 °C and are reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before being kept at 2–8 °C. See the reconstitution guide for more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Are longevity peptides for human use?

No. Epithalon, NAD+ and SS-31 are supplied exclusively for in-vitro laboratory research and are not intended for human or veterinary use.

Is NAD+ a peptide?

No — NAD+ is a coenzyme, not a peptide. It is grouped here because it is heavily studied in the same longevity and mitochondrial research context.

What does SS-31 act on?

SS-31 is studied as a mitochondria-targeted compound, particularly in relation to cardiolipin and mitochondrial bioenergetics.
